Our Strategic Director Mark Trusheim was appointed by Illinois Governor Pritzker to the Advisory Council on Financing and Access to Sickle Cell Disease Treatment and Other High-Cost Drugs & Treatment. Rena Conti, Dean’s Research School and Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business—another member of the NEWDIGS community—was also named to the Council.

The Council aims to advise the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), the state’s Medicaid agency, on developing equitable payment models and financing structures. It engages experts, providers, insurers, drug manufacturers, and Medicaid recipients affected by high-cost treatments, reviews sustainable payment models emphasizing value and outcomes, evaluates existing approaches nationwide, and recommends financing strategies for Illinois and potential national adoption, considering necessary policy and regulatory changes for effective implementation and collaboration.
